The Executive Committee of the New Zealand Institute of Animal Management exists for the following reasons:

To initiate the development, promotion and implementation of learning opportunities that shall bring knowledge and skills connected to the Animal Control Industry (training seminars).

To provide strong leadership and direction on legislative, technical and other pertinent issues relating to and that affect the Animal Control Industry and its members (guide legislators).

To specify and oversee the National Animal Control Officers training qualifications and ensure Officers receive the best training available to maintain the highest level of professionalism and standards achievable; furthermore, to confirm the members “Recognition of Prior Learning” (RPL) qualifications.

To advise Local Authorities of procedures that relate to the effective administration and enforcement of Animal Control legislation.

To effectively manage and co-ordinate the daily affairs of the Institute and provide transparent accountability to the members.

To advise, assist and adopt such things to make better provision for the care and welfare of dogs in New Zealand.

To make Policy Statements public on matters pertaining to dog control, importation of dangerous dogs and any other subject which requires leadership from the Institute.

To prescribe techniques and methods in respect of the care and control of dogs and take all such measures as considered reasonable and necessary to ensure that such techniques and methods are employed by every Animal Control Officer appointed under the Act.
